About the Athens Area Human Relations Council
For more than four decades, the Council has worked to strengthen communities through education, service, leadership, and civic engagement. Founded in 1979, we continue to honor the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by promoting unity, equality, and opportunities for all members of our community.
Our Mission
The Athens Area Human Relations Council is dedicated to fostering understanding, respect, and cooperation among all people through education, community service, youth development, scholarship programs, leadership initiatives, and civic engagement.
Inspired by the principles of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Council works to build stronger communities through nonviolent social change, inclusion, and service to others.
